CICERO, M.T. (Opera:) De officiis, etc. (Venice, Bernardinus Benalius, n.d. (c. 1488)). (180) lvs. W. some black grounded woodcut initials. Fol. Well executed modern brds. (Small wormholes in places (diminishing towards the end), some small annot. in an old hand in places/few underl. in ink, notes crossed out with ink on r° and v° first leaf, but else a clean and fine copy w. ample margins).

Fine edition of a selection of Cicero's works, printed in Roman type, with the commentary by Petrus Marsus surrounding Cicero's texts. The work also contains 'Lælius, sive de amicitia' and 'Paradoxa Stoicorum' with comments by Omnibonus Leonicensis, and 'Cato maior de senectute' with comments by Martinus Phileticus. NB 1: Gathering 'a' of this copy is present in the new type setting and gathering 'b' is in the original type setting (leaf 9 does not have the signature 'b'). The copy listed in the GKW 6958 contains gatherings 'a' and 'b' in the new type setting. NB 2: This edition of Cicero marks one of the early uses of Benalius's commentary and small text type [80R], here in its first state.
