ARMILLARY SPHERE. France (?), 19th c. French wooden heliocentric sphere. Ø 285, 460 mm (h), incl. black wooden pedestal. (The pedestal shows signs of worming, the sphere itself a bit darkened, some of the gilding of the sun is worn, but altog. in good condition).

With seven rings surrounding the sun and two additional rings surrounding the earth. The inner rings bear printed strips of text in French; the broad outer ring carries a printed paper band indicating the 12 months and their corresponding zodiac signs (w. a few tears).
