Richly blind tooled panelled vellum over wooden brds., spine raised in compartments, brass clasps and catches. (Front side partly stained, outer margin ti.-p. rep. on v°, wormhole in last 17 lvs., but altog. a beautiful copy).

First edition of a new translation by Janus Cornarius (actually Johann Haynpol, 1500-1558). Studied in Leipzig with Petrus Mosellanus, then in Wittenberg; travelled to Holland, England, France and Italy. In Basel he joined the group around Erasmus. He combined his knowledge and appreciation for Latin and Greek medical works with the most thorough classical philological studies.
