(Spines a bit darkened, browned in places through all vols., libr. tickets on spines and on upper paste downs, tear in ti.-p. vol. 1, but a very good and solid set).
Greatly expanded second edition of Descartes' Collected Works in Dutch, translated from the Latin by J.H. Glazemaker, first published in the years 1657-1661, but augmented here with at least 300 pp. of additional texts. This is why this set is more complete than the Rieuwertsz edition, containing also translations of 'Le Monde' and the 'Traité de l'Homme'. Furthermore two previously unknown treatises were added: 'Primae cogitationes de generatione animalium' and 'De Saporibus', both translated into Dutch. These four volumes were planned as a set, but were also sold separately. The four volumes comprise the following titles, except for the one already mentioned above: 'Meditationes', 'Proeven der wys-begeerte' and 'Brieven', each subdivided separately in separate sections. Complete sets in uniform bindings are quite rare, ours being also a large paper copy. NB No 'Alle de wercken' leaf is bound up in this copy. - Cf.
