Amazons (Ancient Greek: Amazónes or Amazonides) was the name given by the Greeks to a mythical people of female warriors, who in the epic were situated beyond Troy and also in Thrace. In the 6th century BC they were thought to live in Scythia, in the 5th century BC they were situated in Themiscyra near the Thermodon and in the Hellenistic period they were situated in the far east and west. This is the translation in French of the Latin edition which was published in Amsterdam in 1687. - Brunet IV, 529.€ 300
