FRONTINUS. Quæ extant. R. Keuchenius, notis & emend. illustr. Amst., ex off. J. à Waesberge, 1661. (Printed by P. v.d. Houte at Harderwijk). (32), 416, (16) pp. W. engr. ti. & woodcut printer's device on ti-p. Cont. vellum w. overl. sides. (Gilt dec. on vellum, small annot. in ink, waterstaining & browning throughout).

With an autograph dedication of Keuchenius, editor of this work, to his former teacher Gronovius, in a very clear and legible hand; also of interest, Gronovius' own annotations in ink. Robertus Keuchenius (1636-1673), trained in medicine and law and philology. At Leiden University he studied with J.F. Gronovius (1611-1671). In 1661 K. edited the works of Frontinus before becoming a teacher at the Athenaeum Illustre at Amsterdam. The autograph dedication adresses Gronovius as 'Most famous and learned (…), matchless advocate of the (classical) Arts and its practitioners.' 'Clarissimo & Eruditissimo Viro (…) Literarum ac literatorum fautori incomparabili'. Annotations in ink suggest that the copy was well-received and studied by Gronovius. - W. former owners' ex libris, one on paste-down & the other loosely inserted. - Schweiger II, 367: "Erste, einzelne Ausg. der sämmtl. Werke des F."
