Selling

If you bring books, prints, manuscripts, etc. for one of our auctions, you will undoubtedly have questions about the further procedure.
This page outlines the course of events from the moment of consignment to the auction.

Valuation
First of all, we would like to view the books you intend to auction. As a rule, this happens during a home visit. We clearly state which books are eligible for auction and which are not.
For more expensive objects, a reserve price is generally agreed, which is a value in euros below which your item may not be sold. In addition, the term 'à toux prix' is also used; no limit is agreed, but your object is sold at a reasonable, market-based price.

Transport
In principle, we collect books and prints ourselves. However, if the quantities are too large, we will switch to the moving company Van der Pot (Scheveningen). They take care of everything professionally and transport it to Leiden.

Insurance
Your consignment will be insured against calamities. An insured amount is always agreed with you. No costs will be charged.

Auction fee
For the service of auctioning, that is to say for describing, cataloging, and everything else that is needed for the sale, we charge a percentage to the consignor. What percentage is agreed depends, among other things, on the value and amount of your consignment. The consignor’s percentage includes all taxes and other costs.

The auction and internet
The auction is a real auction with buyers who bid in a real auction room. In addition, the auction can also be followed live through major international auction platforms, allowing bidders from all over the world to participate in the auction.

Payout
After the auction, the proceeds of your consignment will be transferred to your bank account after deduction of the agreed consignor’s percentage. This happens exactly seven weeks after the auction.

Expertise
Skillful descriptions of the objects you consign are made by experts who give the most realistic possible picture of what you want to sell.
