SHIHÂB al-DÎN Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Abî Rabî', Kitâb Sulûk al-mâlik fî tadbîr al-mamâlik. Cairo lithogr. 1286 (mentioned by Goldziher, Abh. 1, 66). 152, 3 pp. Colophon on p. 150: written by ("râqimuhu") Muhammad 'Alî al-Khurâsânî; dated Sha'bân 1286 (1869). Printed by order of King Muhammad 'Arif Bâshâ (p. 151 infra). The text is followed by three pages of corrections written by the corrector ("musahhih") Muhammad al-Samlûtî. Fol. Old cf. binding. (Spine ends dam., edges a bit dam./worn, loose in binding, paper a bit browned).

According to a note on the first page and on p. 11-12, the book was written during the rule of the Abbasid Caliph al-Mu'tasim. However, Jurjî Zaydân argued in his book on the history of Arabic literature (Târîkh âdâb al-'arabiyya vol. 2, 1911, p. 214) that the book would rather have been written during the rule of Caliph Al-Musta'sim (641-56/1242-58). This is also the view of GAL S I 372 (with reference to MS Meshhed IX,1,1, Akhlâq al-mushajjar). Also Najî al-Tikrîtî holds this view in his printed edition of Bayrut-Paris, 1978, pp. 8-9 (where he quotes the Paris MS as reading Al-Musta'sim). He also shows that Ibn Abî Rabî' was deeply influenced by Kitâb Tahdhîb al-Akhlâq of Yahyâ ibn 'Adî (d. 365/975). Cod.Or. 4 Sha'bân 880 and copied by Muhammad al-Misrî known as Ibn al-Kalandarî of Leiden also reads Al-Musta'sim (fol. 3b).
