French translation by Jacques Amyot (1513-1593), French humanist and prelate. The original edition dates from 1559. "Parallel Lives" consists of around fifty biographies of illustrious men, a large part of which are placed in parallel (thus contrasting a Greek with a Roman), for example Pericles and Fabius Maximus; Demosthenes and Cicero.
