PRAYERBOOK. (Maastricht area?), late 15th c. Ms. in Middle-Dutch on paper and vellum. (315) lvs. (later pencil foliation). Littera hybrida, black, blue and red ink, 14-20 lines to the page, measuring 64 x 95 mm. W. 20 fine coloured and partly gold heightened initials, of which 3 historiated (i.a. depicting Mary and Child). Bound in 19th c. cf. bind. w. 1 central clasp with catch, all edges painted red. (Sides detached, but in fine and clean interior condition).

Collection of religious texts and prayers in various hands, comprising Prayers on the Passion of Christ, Prayer to St. Servatius, Prayer to St. Augustine, Prayer to the Holy Trinity, a.m.o. Lacks at least 2 leaves after f. 53 and possibly also 1 beween f. 72 and 73. Owner's entry on r° first blank: "Suster Anna Maria van Cortenbach" above the following device: "Sterven om te leven/ Derven om te ghebruyken/ Arbaijden om te rusten". The Van Cortenbach family is an old noble family who lived at Cortenbach Castle in the Dutch municipality of Voerendaal. The family has produced lords of various lordships, knights and generals, and a commander of the Teutonic Order in Alden Biesen.
