SOUTH AMERICA -- BRAZIL -- COLLECTION of 38 very fine plain lithographs from J.M. Rugendas's 'Das Merkwürdigste aus der malerischen Reise in Brasilien'. Schaffhausen, 1836. 250 x 350 mm (plate size). Plates only, loose as issued. In very good and untrimmed condition. (Partially slightly foxed).

Rugendas was recruited by Baron Langsdorff to join an expedition travelling to Brazil. The plates were lithographed by J. Brodtmann after drawings by Joh. Schweiker and depict landscapes in Brazil, native Brazilians, but also slaves and scenes from the slave trade. Present are 38 (of 40) plates: 1te Abthl: Taf. 1-10; 2te Abthl: Taf. 1-6; 3te Abthl: Taf. 1-10; 4te Abthl: Taf. 1-5; 5te Abthl: Taf. 1-7. - Borba de Moraes p. 754.
