Abraham Munting (1626-83), graduated MD at Angers. At Groningen university he succeeded his father as professor extraordinary of botany. 'Naauwkeurige Beschryving der Aardgewassen' is Munting's best known work, published after his death. It is an improved version of earlier editions of 'Waare Oeffening der Planten'. It contains in-depth descriptions of the cultivation of plants, trees, shrubs, etc. as well as their medicinal properties. - Nissen BBI, 1429; Pritzel 6559; Hunt 404: "The plates are as curious as their subjects. They commonly present the plants far larger than life, oranges huge as pumpkins, cyclamens with heavy corms floating lightly in mid-air, gentle geraniums grown into giant trees. The effect is obtained through sketching in classical or idyllic or mountainous little landscapes below."
