A health insurance was mainly aimed at the poor and the premium therefore consisted of a few cents a week. The 'health insurance carrier' collected the premium money weekly from the insured and then paid the doctors and pharmacists. In the 19th century, the popularity of health insurance funds grew rapidly. Commercial funds, mutual workers' funds and funds set up by doctors and pharmacists arose.€ 100
