The Thames Tunnel, also called Wapping-Rotherhithe Tunnel was designed by the French emigré Marc Isambard Brunel and completed in 1843 after 18 years of construction. It was the first subaqueous tunnel in the world and was for many years the largest soft-ground tunnel.€ 300
