Cont. raised hcf., spines richly gilt (i.a. w. gilt image of a ship under full sail), labels in black and red. (Spine ends and outer corners show some wear/slightly dam., upper joint vol. 1 split, some faint marginal dampstains, but a very fine, complete and clean set w. crisp plates).

Richard Pococke (1704 –1765) was an English prelate and anthropologist. From 1737-1741 he visited the Near East, visiting Egypt, ascending the Nile as far as Philae, and then passed into Palestine, Lebanon & Syria, Asia Minor, and Greece.
