First Dutch edition of a beautifully illustrated work on the Japanese festive ceremonies and customs, written by Isaac Titsingh (1745-1812), i.a. head of the Dutch Factory at Decima for the Dutch East Indian Company. The Dutch edition was translated from the English edition of 1822 which itself was a translation of the French edition of 1819. Lacking unfortunately 1 plate in vol. 1 (opposite p. 58): 'Wedding ceremony with a group of 14 people', but including the beautiful view on Decima. - Lequin, Isaac Titsingh, p. 258; Landwehr, VOC, 538; Alt-Japan-Kat. 1520; Cordier 451.
