Prince Aleksei Dmitrievich Saltykov (1806–1859), Russian artist and traveller in Persia and India, grandson of Prince Nikolay Saltykov. He made two voyages to India (in 1841–43 and in 1844–46), achieving the epithet 'The Indian' from the Russian and French aristocracy. The fine plates depict people and scenes in New Delhi, Madras, Ceylon, Calcutta, Lahore, the Himalayas, etc. - Cf Vicaire VII, 575.
