CHINA -- MENNIE, D. The Pageant of Peking. Shanghai, A.S. Watson & Co., 1920. (8), 40 pp. W. 66 plain photo-engr. hinged to mounts. Fol. Or. blue silk over cardboard bind., lettered in gilt on front side, uncut. (Bind. a bit worn/slightly dam., some mild foxing, bookplate on first free endpaper).

Donald Mennie spent most of his life in China and by 1914 he was working in China for the pharmacy firm A.S. Watson & Co. In 1934 the firm was listed as a “dealer in all kinds of photographic chemicals and apparatus”, a move which may have been influenced by Mennie’s interest in photography. This is Mennie’s earliest photo-book.
