VER HUELL, Alexander (1822-1897). "Franz Liszt te Leiden in 184*". 1865. Tinted lithogr. 276 x 410 mm (image size).

Composer and pianist Franz Liszt holds a candle while hanging from his window during his stay in Leiden. A group of celebrating students with torches stands in the street, greeting their idol. Alexander Ver Huell has depicted himself to the right of the center of the drawing together with his dog Bull. Liszt is said to have visited Leiden in 1843. - Signed, dated, captioned in the artist's own hand and w. the following annotation: "Proefneming of deze manier van teekenen geschikt is voor grooter compositien". The Rijksmuseum holds a similar copy, also signed.
