First edition of the description of a great expedition mounted by Frederick V. of Denmark in 1761-67. Of the several scientist who participated, Carsten Niebuhr (1733-1815) was the only one to return alive. His maps and charts, copies of cuneiform inscriptions and astronomical studies all contributed greatly to (the start of) several scientific endeavors.
