ENCYCLOPÉDIE OF HANDBOEK van vrouwelijke bedrijven en raadgever in alle vakken van den vrouwelijken werkkring. Uit het Hoogduitsch vert. d. A.B. v. Meerten geb. Schilperpoort. Amst., 1835. Xvi, 199 pp. W. engr. title-vign., engr. front. w. old handcol. & 20 plts. Or. dec. boards. (Spine discold., decorative paper loose at the ends, sides faded, some wear at corners, 1 leaf w. annot. (birthdays?) in an old hand pasted on endpaper, annot. in pen on french page, some yellowing of the edges & margins, a few (childish) pencil stripes in places, lower corner stained in last half, but a clean and bright copy).
Front cover reads "Encyclopédie voor Vrouwen en Meisjes uit den beschaafden Stand". The book seems targeted to the younger ladies and contains chapters on several types of handwork, the daintier side of housework (how to set a formal table, how to drape the windows), and personal care. Interestingly, the last chapters contain fictionalised letters to young women about their personal aspirations, the last one being an exhortation to a young poetess to think her professional ambitions over before committing to the life of an artist.€ 80
