Mivart (1827-1900), whom Charles Darwin styled the "distinguished biologist", was professor of botany and zoology at Kensington Roman Catholic University College in London and occupied the chair of the philosophy of natural history at the university of Louvain, Belgium. He attempted to reconcile Darwin's theory of evolution with the beliefs of the Catholic Church, and finished by being condemned by both parties. Scarce. - Nissen, ZBI, 2846.
