The 'Sylva Sylvarum' ("Forest of Materials") contains a thousand paragraphs of observations and experiments. Its content is of wide range and includes subjects as air, flame, water, gravity, flight, chemical constituents of bodies, medical treatments, mineral waters, medical herbs, etc. - The 'Novus Atlas', published in 1627, is a description of an ideal state in which the principles of the new philosophy are carried out by political machinery and under state guidance, and where many of the results contemplated by Bacon are in imagination attained. - First edition in Latin; fine copy. - Brunet I, 604; cf.
