(remnants) of ties. (Past downs detached, outer margin first and last blank lvs. a bit frayed, 1 inserted blank leaf w. some annot. in ms., but a very good copy).

The engravings depict all kinds of atrocities by the protestants against catholics in England, France and the Low Countries during the Eighty Years War, including the execution of Maria Stuart (p. 83). The plates are not signed, but several images are said to be made by Jean Wierix. Each engraving is accompanied by a few verses of explanatory text by Jean Boch (1555-1609). Richard Rowlands, alias Verstegen/Verstegan (London 1550 - Antwerp 1641), participated in propaganda activities throughout Europe against the Protestants. Interleaved copy.
