The etchings of this monumental edition of Petronius's 'Satyricon' by André Derain were - according to the colophon - already engraved in 1934 for a project by Ambroise Vollard, but published here under the direction of Dérain and "aux dépens d'un amateur", colonel Daniel Sickles. The text was translated by Héguin de Guerle. Printed in 300 copies to which 26 "exemplaires nominatifs" on 'vélin d'Arches' were added for friends and family of the artist: this copy being especially printed for Guy de Rothschild and with his bookplate on the first free endpaper.
