First edition. This book appeared in the midst of of the conflicts between Remonstrants and Contra-Remonstrants. Vossius wanted to show that the Remonstrants could not be accused of holding heretical views, because they adhered to the consensus of the old church. Vossius was subsequently forced to resign from the State College at Leiden and had to justify himself before the Synod of Dordrecht in 1619.
