The Billiton Company was founded in 1852 by Vincent Gildemeester van Tuyll van Serooskerken and John Francis Loudon, with financial help from Prince Willem Frederik Hendrik. On March 23, 1852, the company's founders obtained a concession on Billiton Island (present-day Belitung), after which the company was established. Photographer unknown.€ 400
