ASTROLOGY -- CREMONA, G. da (=G. da Sabbioneta). Geomancie astronomique. Pour savoir les choses passées, les presentes, & les futures. Trad. p. le sieur de Salerne. - Bound with: Id. La geomancie et nomancie des anciens. La nomancie cabalistique. (Trad. p. le sieur de Salerne). - Par., L. d'Houry, 1685-91. 2 in 1 vol. (12), 258, (6); (12), 138, (5) pp. 12°. Cont. cf. w. raised bands & dec. gilt back. (Spine ends slightly worn, some minor browning in places).

One of the first geomancy treatises. The true author of this work is in fact Gerard de Sabbionetta, astronomer and Italian physician of the 13th century, born in Sabionetta near Cremona and who was often confused with Gerard de Cremone, of whom he was perhaps the son. In any case, he had a great reputation as an astrologer. Gerard of Cremona is famous for his translations of Avicenna and Ptolemy's Almagest. Both works are the original editions of 1669(!), with overprints (slips on ti-pp.) of 1691 and 1685. - Extremely rare. Caillet II, 156; III, 472.
