CONCHOLOGY -- GEVE, N.G. Belustigung im Reiche der Natur. Bd. 1 (alles). Aus den Papieren des Verstorbenen vollendet durch J.D. Schultze. Hamburg, Gebr. Herold, 1790. vi, 121 pp. W. 33 etchings ('Geve pinxit') containing hundreds of representations of seashells and mollusc shells, all delicately cold. by hand, incl. an allegorical etched frontispice by Aug. Zenger. Lge-4°. Cont. cf. w. gilt dec. border on both sides, spine gilt and raised in compartments. (Bind. worn, front side loosening, content only faintly age-toned, but in fine interior condition).

Very scarce work which was finished by Johannes Dominicus Schultze (1751-1790) after the death of Nicolaus Georg Geve (1712-1789). Descriptions are in German and French. The title of the work suggests that there should be only 18 plates, but it was clearly augmented with 15 plates (by Geve's successor?). Nissen has a question mark after the number of plates which probably means that he had no copy at hand. Not in any auction for a long time, especially with the number of plates in this copy. Copies with 18 plates also occur. With bookplate W. & M. Hofker-Rueter. - Nissen ZBI 1561.
