Ad 1: Jean Domat (1625-1696), intimate of Pascal and entrusted with his private papers. This work is a selection of the most common laws in the collection of Justinian. Ad 2: Jacques (de) Cujas or Cujacius (1522-1590), "the father of the history of law", French jurisconsult and specialist on Justinian. Cujas condensed into short axioms the elementary principles of law, and gave definitions remarkable for their admirable clearness and precision.
