JAPAN -- MICHINOBU, O. Oshie tekagami. Osaka, Shibikawa Seiemon, (1737). 3 parts in 1 vol. W. many b&w woodblock images of people, landscapes and scenes from nature, a colophon, and two pages of advertisements for other publications at the back of vol. 3. In characteristic brocade binding, indicating previous ownership by the French collector Eugène Gillet. (Title slip vol. 3 worn, otherwise very good general condition). -- Added: M. HANZAN. Jiguchi andon (Decorations for lanterns). (N.d., presumably after 1882). Last volume (of two?). W. 43 woodblock printed ills., accompanied by poetry. Original covers, includes rare owrp., in excellent condition. -- (2).

Ad 1: A woodblock-printed treatise on cloth-covered prints, Oshie, a niche product popular in Osaka. Preface dated 1736. - Eugène Gillet, (1859-1938), French artist, collected an extensive library of Japanese woodblock printed books. The collection was dispersed after being auctioned in the early 1960s.
