MANUSCRIPTS -- PERSIAN MANUSCRIPT on the Lives and Martyrdoms of the Twelve Imams. Iran, Qajar period, c. 1820-1850 AD. 373 lvs. Persian ms. copied in naskh script, black ink with red headings and rubrications, on European laid paper with two distinct watermarks, incl. cartouche and animal motifs. Dimensions: 26,5x16,5 cm; written area 20x12,5 cm. Cloth bind. (Bind. worn, scattered stains, smudges and wormholes, edges thumbed from devotional use, margins repaired in places, but generally good, textblock sound, ink bold and legible throughout).

Margins with scholarly notes and devotional jottings, numerous leaves with red smudges marking the name of Imam Husayn as evidence of ritual mourning practice. Oval waqf seal of Muhammad Ridâ ibn Muhammad with red ink control marks attesting to institutional library ownership. A manuscript preserved with strong evidence of ritual and institutional history.
