Tartaglia's Italian translation of Euclid's Elements, first published in 1543, was the first version of the text to be published in a vernacular European language. He worked from a Latin version of an uncorrupted Greek original, as opposed to earlier Latin texts, which contained errors rendering some of the work incorrect and impossible to use properly. His translation also contains his own commentary, as he was an accomplished mathematician in his own right. - Adams E994; Thomas-Stanford 40; Steck III.77.€ 300
