BREVIARY/MISSAL, Cistercian use. France, Valbonne (?), 17th-18th c. Latin manuscript on paper. (14) pp. (calendar) & 474 numb. pp. (chant). Written in red and brown ink, with square Gregorian notation on a four-line staff, w. dec. initials in red, blue, green, some heightened w. gold. Old cf. (Bind. severely chafed, stamp on free endpaper, inner margin stained throughout, some scribbling on last page).

The first 14 pages contain a full liturgical calendar with moveable feasts and sanctoral cycle. Includes universal Roman feasts as well as local celebrations. Of particular note is 7 November: "Dedicatio Ecclesiae Vallis-bona solennitas", commemorationg the dedication of the abbey church of Valbonne (Provence), which places this manuscript in that milieu.
