Meticulously engraved survey of the facades of the houses along the Herengracht and Keizersgracht with captions in the plates. The 'Grachtenboek' offers a perfect and harmonious picture of Amsterdam's cityscape at the end of the 18th century. Of the more than 1,400 depicted facades, approximately 480 have been preserved in more or less unchanged condition (source: Amsterdam Monumentenstad). This is the 2nd edition with the title-page by J.B. Elwe.
