Alphen, Willem van (1608-1691), Dutch jurist, was secretary of the Court of Holland from 1633 till 1684. During this period he collected the accounts of numerous legal affairs which he presented in this work. It was first publ. in 1642 and was used as a legal handbook by judges & advocates.
