VRIES LENTSCH, DE - SAILING YACHT SALLY -- "WEDSTRIJDEN VAN HET Z.Z.V. 6mr Jacht "Sally". 1926 (and early 30's). Collection of together 351 tipped in photographs of sailing competitions, yacht building at the De Vries Lentsch wharf, crews, spectators, stored in 2 fine thick "Kalamazoo" pigskin bindings; 1 album w. 2 circular cold. flags painted on vellum and w. gilt lettered front side. Photos mostly c. 170 x 230 mm, but also some smaller. Fol.

The 'six meter yacht' ('zesmeterjacht klasse') 'Sally' was built by Gerard (III) de Vries Lentsch jr. on commission by Maarten de Wit (living in Zaandam at the time) in 45 days only (the sails being shipped from the UK through KLM!). According to a printed title-page, one album was donated by Klaas de Jager to Maarten de Wit in September 1926. This album contains photos of the construction and launching of 'Sally', as well as photos of her first sailing competition on August 14th 1926. The photos are alternated with competition accounts, filled in with pen, containing all kinds of details, such as competitors, notes about the weather, the sails used, etc. 'Sally' also took part in competitions on the Mediterranean Sea before the coast of Genoa, but the majority of the photos cover Dutch competitions. The second album (commissioned by Gerard De Vries Lentsch himself?) contains no fewer than 251(!) photographs, a few of 'Sally' but also of other beautiful sailing yachts (including 3 of the 'Germania'), mostly fine action photos. In fine condition. - NB Shipping will require extra postage. - See illustration on plate 20.
