Personally acquainted with Descartes, Frans van Schooten jr. (1615/6-1660) was one of the first to study Cartesian mathematics. He edited and translated D.'s 'Géométrie' into Latin and provided it with illustrations. He had several bright private students, such as Christiaan Huygens who contributed to this work with a treatise on the game of chance.
