MATHEMATICS -- BROUWER, L.E.J. Over de grondslagen der wiskunde. Amst./Lpz., Maas & v. Suchtelen, 1907. (6), 183 pp. Ocl., uncut. (Spine discold., some foxing in places, but else a fine copy).
"Brouwer positioned himself outside the foundational debate, in that he never did seek the foundation for mathematics in logic. He developed a philosophical/psychological view, founding mathematical thought on a primordial intuition of time. He broke the restriction of the usual identification of mathematics and logic. In this work (his dissertation) Brouwer set out to develop an alternative vision of mathematical thought, founding it in human intuition." This copy is bound in blue cloth mentioning Noordhoff as the publisher. The title page however refers to Maas & v. Suchtelen, the original publishers. Very rare. - Berkel 393-95; DSB II, 512-14.€ 500
