Account book of the 'Groot Kieldrechtpolder' near Hulst covering the period 1682-1690, maintained by the land agent Alexander van Kervel (?-?). Signed at end by members of the polder board. The name 'Kieldrecht' was first mentioned in 1238. The area in the North of Flanders (Belgium) suffered from flooding in 1333, 1366, 1376, 1377 and 1424. During the final phase of the Eighty Years' War, dykes were carried out in order to counteract the effects of the military inundations. According to Van der Aa VI, p. 434 the polder was diked in 1687.
