(20), 388; (2), 376; (1), 38 pp. Half-titles to all parts, 2 titles w. engr. vignette of a working kitchen by Jubin, 9 fold. engr. plates, vol. 1 title-p w. signature of the widow Beauvilliers and date amended by hand to 1816, added half-title stating "seconde edition" (but most of work 1st ed.). Cont. cf. bind. w. gilt lettering and dec. on spine, red & black labels, turn-ins gilt, marbled endpapers. (Extremities a bit dam., 1 plate fold reinforced, plates a bit waterstained, sl. browned/foxed).

First edition, second issue. According to Jean Anthelme Brillat-Savarin the French restauranteur Beauvilliers "was the first to have an elegant dining room, handsome well-trained waiters, a fine cellar and a superior kitchen".
