Ad 1: This book describes three methods of fortification that were specially designed for the Dutch landscape and that could withstand the most modern methods of warfare. Praised by his French counterpart Vauban, Van Coehoorn befriended the Duke of Marlborough and Peter the Great tried to bring him to Russia in 1697. Because of his successes, he was ennobled and received numerous commissions from the States General to design fortifications: Groningen, Zwolle, Nijmegen, Breda, Bergen op Zoom. - Sloos 08072; Bierens de Haan 914; Hoogendoorn Coeh03.€ 700
