"De dunne spoch, die voor het eeten/in uw mondt leydt,/Een zeeker teeken is van hongher en/gezontheydt." The 'Schola Medica Salernitana' was the world's first medical school. Situated on the Tyrrhenian Sea in the South Italian city of Salerno, it was the most important source of medical knowledge in Western Europe at the time and contains all kinds of practical advise as to what is best for the human body. The school, founded in the 9th c., achieved its utmost splendour between the 10th and 13th centuries. - Waller 1512; BMN I, 388; not in Muller/De Vr./Scheepers!€ 150
