Extremely rare first Dutch extended edition of this very popular work on country housekeeping, originally published in Paris in 1554 as "Praedium Rusticum" by Charles Estienne (Dutch: Stevens) from the famous french printer's family. The work is a collection of treatises on various aspects of country husbandry, as planting trees, creating herb-gardens, vineyards, keeping cattle, bees, fish, distilling, making cheese. It is also an early standard work on the cultivation of vineyards: the cutting of grapes, plant disease, medicinal wines, sowing and planting, red and white wines, etc. The present Amsterdam edition was enlarged with two more books, one on sundials, and the other on landsurveying, by Melchior Sebizius, and with a third book on wolf-hunting. - Typ. Bat. 1819; Bibl. Belgica II, p.1057-1058; cf. Hunt 69 (1st Latin ed. and French and Engl. translations). Not in Adams.
