BABEUF/COMMUNISM -- BUONARROTI, Ph. Bruss., Libr. Romantique, 1828. 2 parts in 1 vol. viii, 325, (3); (4), 327, (3) pp. Lge-8°. Cont. marbled brds., gilt spine w. mor letterpiece. (Extremities sl. worn, a bit foxed at beginning & end).

Philippe Buonarotti (1761-1837), communist conspirator, who associated himself with the Jacobins and became one of the chief leaders of the conspiracy of Babeuf. The work contains the most complete scheme for the actual establishment of communism. The author ascribes the whole scheme to Babeuf, but there can be little doubt that this is to a great extent a literary fiction, and that the scheme is mostly his own. After living in exile in Geneva and Brussels, Buonarotti returned to Paris in 1830. - The rare original edition. - With bookplate of F.C.M. Takes on upper pastedown.
