Johann Geiler von Kaisersberg (1445-1510) was called "the German Savonarola", one of the greatest of the popular preachers of the 15th c. His sermons delivered at Strassburg were structured on the immensely popular 'Navis Stultifera'/'Narrenschiff', written by his friend and fellow humanist Sebastian Brant and first published in 1494. The book contains 110 sermons which are based on 110 types of fools. The woodcuts used for the 'Navicula' were originally commissioned for the 'Ship of fools', which includes 73 woodcuts now recognised as the work of the young Albrecht Dürer (cf. Winkler, Dürer und die Illustrationen zum Narrenschiff, 1951). - Second Latin edition.
