Cornelis Veth was a celebrated Dutch illustrator, cartoonist, journalist and writer. He received graphic training from his uncle Jan Veth. He made watercolours, lithographs and drawings, including caricatures of Dutch writers, wrote parodies of literary genres and figures, which he illustrated himself. He made a picture book for children, Uzzeltje (1904). He is best known as a critic of literature and visual arts. He has also been of great importance to children's literature through his critical work on children's books and their illustrations. Our collection comprises cartoons, (children's) book illustrations, designs for advertisements, portraits (self-portraits?), etc., dated with intervals over a period of c. 60 years. 12 drawings are accompanied by typescript texts, some of which are set-ups for comedic advertisements. Rich collection and very interesting from an artistic point of view. Provenance: obtained through inheritance from the artist's estate. - See at length: https://www.dbnl.org/tekst/coil001lexi01_01/lvdj01053.php
