GLOBES -- BARDIN, W. The Celestial Globe, accompanying the Geographical Magazine. Lond., Published as the Act directs by Harrison & C° N° 18, Paternoster Row, Apr. 1, 1785. Celestial globe consisting of 24 engr. gores mounted in brass meridian within horizon ring illustrated with astrological signs, on turned wooden baluster (George III style) stand. Ø 228 mm (9 inch). 315 (h) x 325 (w). (A bit browned, but in v.g. condition).
William Bardin is recorded as a globe maker from the 1780's onwards. Bardin's son, Thomas Marriott Bardin, joined the firm as an apprentice in 1783. Bardin operated on Fleet Street until 1795 when the company moved to Salisbury Square.
