LOW COUNTRIES -- BREDA -- "SIEGE DE BREDA". Paris, I. Silvestre, n.d. (1628?). Engr. panoramic view of the Siege of Breda by Jacques Callot, dissected in 35 parts and laid down on linen, trimmed in red along the outer borders. Total size 122 x 143 cm. Folded in red h. mor. commemoration book-like box (310 x 210 mm), dated 1825 on the lower spine end. (Map a bit browned, but in perfect condition).

Impressive and detailed representation - originally in 6 plates - of the siege and capture of Breda by Spinola (August 27th 1624 - June 5th 1625) with the city in the distance and soldiers and encampments in the foreground, etched by Jacques Callot (1592–1635) and published by Israel Silvestre (1621–1691). Third state (of 3) w. banderole "Siège de Breda" in the upper centre. - Méaume 510; Lieure 593 (provides a detailed explanation of the creation of this map); Muller 1512; Atlas v. Stolk 1604 (other ed.). Without the so-called 7th 'index' plate 'Index Obsidionis Bredae' (nearly always lacking).
