French Vice Admiral Pierre André de Suffren (1729-1788) led naval campaigns against the British in the 18th century, sometimes collaborating with the Dutch East India Company (VOC). During the Fourth Anglo-Dutch War (1781-83), he requested the VOC governor to provide cannons from VOC ships for an attack on the British fleet. For this reason he was honoured by the VOC Zeeland. A bronze copy is held in the collection of the Rijksmuseum.€ 100
